There is no dress code for spectators of the US Open golf tournament, but the general dress code requires individuals to dress semi-formally and decently in a golfing event. Therefore, it is recommended that men wear collared shirts, trousers, or shorts, and women may wear blouses with skirts or trousers. In the evening, men are expected to wear jackets in the Clubhouse, while women should wear dresses, skirts, or tailored pantsuits. Appropriate footwear is necessary because there is a lot of walking, and some items and types of clothing are not allowed, including denim and athletic wear.

Dress Code Guidelines for Spectators

Similar to our recommended US Open tennis dress code, you should dress appropriately for the event when going to a US Open golf tournament. Just be humble and reasonable; that will be your best bet. Spectators are not required to adhere to any dress code, but it is recommended that the attire be semi-formal, comfortable, practical, and modest. First, consider these tacit rules and the distinctions between women and men.

Women's Golf Spectator Attire

Women watching the US Open golf tournament should dress comfortably in semi-formal or casual attire suitable for the golf environment. T-shirts or polo shirts worn with tailored pants, skirts, or golf shorts are also appropriate. The skirts should not be shorter than 4 inches from the knee. Sundresses and rompers are also allowed but should not be too revealing or tight. It is suggested to wear comfortable shoes like sandals with good arch support or flat shoes while moving around the golf course. In the evening, women can dress up and wear skirts and blouses, suits, tailored pants suits, pants, blazers, or evening pants sets in the Clubhouse unless otherwise stipulated for a certain event. Some types of clothing that should be avoided include those that are too casual or immodest, for instance, wearing tank tops, sportswear, leggings, or short pants.

Men's Golf Spectator Outfit

Male spectators of the US Open golf tournament should dress in collared golf shirts, for example, polos and trousers, golf shorts, khakis, or trousers worn to the knee. It is advisable to wear soft spike or spikeless golf shoes when walking the course for comfort reasons. In the evening, some changes to the outfit will be required.

Evening Wear Guidelines

After 6:00 PM, jackets are mandatory for men in all areas of the Clubhouse at the Los Angeles Country Club (LACC) during the US Open unless otherwise stated for any particular event. For women, dressy skirts and blouses, tailored pants suits, pants, blazers, or evening pants sets are appropriate evening attire in the Clubhouse after 6:00 PM unless otherwise noted for a particular occasion.

Top US Open Accessories to wear

Some of the best accessories to commemorate your trip to the US Open include:

  • The Putter Boy figurine is the emblem of Pinehurst. This little statue, priced at about $125, would make a perfect addition to a bookshelf or desk.

  • A traditional navy US Open cap, similar to the one that Tiger Woods wore during the 1996 US Amateur.

  • Some of the limited edition US Open prints by artist Lee Wybranski that fans acquire during the tournament.

  • A copper ball marker from Seamus Golf that is customizable with the option to engrave your initials to serve as a souvenir of your US Open.

  • A traditional navy US Open cap, similar to the one that Tiger Woods wore during the 1996 US Amateur.

  • A canvas tote bag with a leather handle that is both functional and fashionable for holding your belongings while navigating the golf course.

  • A cute "Hush Y'all" wooden magnet as a whimsical southern spin on the conventional "Quiet Please" golf signs.

  • A classic, vintage cotton US Open t-shirt that will keep you cool and comfortable in the hot summer weather.

Footwear Recommendations

The US Open Championship also involves a lot of walking on grass slopes, dirt trails, and any other irregular surface. To ensure your feet do not sweat much, it is advised to wear comfortable shoes like sneakers or spikeless golf shoes. Golf shoes are made to provide support during the swing, but for someone who will be walking around the golf course, comfort should be the main concern.

Prohibited Items and Clothing

There are some items and clothing that are not allowed in the US Open golf championship to avoid disruptive behaviors and promote safety. Items that are not allowed are weapons of any sort, even if the person has a permit for them. Wearing a denim dress code like jeans, shirts, and jackets is not allowed. Shorts, skorts, culottes, beach shoes like flip flops, cargo pants, warm-up suits, leggings, athletic wear, and clothing with improper messages are also not allowed. Shoe changing is not allowed in the parking area. Hats, caps, and visors are not allowed in the Clubhouse or on the surrounding patios except for the uncovered terrace by the bar, and the bill should be facing forward.

US Open Golf Trivia

US Open Broadcast Team

NBC Sports has announced its broadcast team for the 2024 US Open golf championship at Pinehurst No. 2:

  • Dan Hicks and Mike Tirico will divide the play-by-play assignments, with Hicks working on even holes alongside Brandel Chamblee and Tirico working on odd holes with Brad Faxon.

  • Roger Maltbie is back as the on-course reporter, while Gary Koch is with Steve Sands for the early part of the broadcast.

  • Smylie Kaufman will take on the role of host for the "Happy Hour," during which he will engage with players after their games.

  • Other combinations of announcers and analysts are Terry Gannon and Notah Begay III, Rich Lerner, and Curt Byrum, as well as Tom Abbott and Arron Oberholser.

  • On-course reporters are Jim 'Bones' Mackay, John Wood, Curt Byrum, and Paige Mackenzie.

The concept of having four people on the team, first introduced at the Ryder Cup, means that the play-by-play guys can simply call the action while the analysts explain what is happening and why. NBC is still in the process of looking for a full-time replacement for Johnny Miller, the previous analyst.
