The DCC, or the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, are the official cheerleaders of the Dallas Cowboys and affectionately nicknamed America’s Sweethearts. They have existed since the 1960s and are already a very popular element of the American sports and entertainment landscape. However, becoming one of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders is another very difficult life full of challenges and risks. Well, let us delve into them in more detail.

Who Are The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders?

The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (DCC) is a 36-member team that performs during the Dallas Cowboys home games and many other events. The group is best known for its shining outfits and graceful moves. The performers have to go through the annual auditions and practice a lot. Instead of “only” being cheerleaders, the DCC are the official representatives of the Dallas Cowboys brand, spreading the word about the team and its values across the country.

Besides dancing during game days, the DCC members contribute to community events and perform more than a thousand times a year, including performances at schools and hospitals. Their selection process, which includes multiple rounds of auditions, interviews, and fitness tests, is often featured in the Netflix series Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team. Since the 1960s, the DCC has developed into an essential component of the Dallas Cowboys organization and a popular entity in its own right.

Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Pay

The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (DCC) are a constant evidence that hard work and talent pay a lot, but it does not always have to mean that one deserves to be paid adequately. While the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders are vital to the team’s promotion, several cheerleaders have claimed to be paid less than cheerleaders from other NFL teams.

Pay Structure

  • Base Salary: Today, cheerleaders are estimated to be paid between $15 and $20 per hour or $500 for a game day. Veterans are estimated to be paid about $75,000 yearly for rehearsal, games, and appearances.

  • Additional Income: Cheerleaders can make additional cash by selling merchandise, performances, and other endeavors.

  • Supplemental Employment: Most cheerleaders continue to look for other means of earning an income, which shows their financial instability.

Past Developments

  • In 2019, the Dallas Cowboys organization raised the cheerleaders’ pay from $8 to $12 per hour and $400 per game, which helped address some of the concerns about equal pay.

  • The team also offers certain advantages, such as health insurance for eligible members.

Ongoing Discussions

The topic of cheerleader compensation remains a point of discussion in the NFL and sports community:

  • There are constant demands for increased remunerations and improved perks that can acknowledge the cheerleaders for their efforts in the team and the NFL.

  • The Netflix series Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team has helped to focus on the financial aspect of being a DCC.

  • It has also generated debate on remunerations and the significance of cheerleaders to the NFL teams.

Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Costume

The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (DCC) are popular for their sexy yet practical outfits. These uniforms, which have not been significantly altered since 1972, are specially designed for each cheerleader and made from materials such as poly microfiber and heavy synthetic knit. They include embroidered designs and crystal accents in the team's blue and white colors, enabling elaborate routines.

Although the costumes were originally designed by Paula Van Wagoner and handmade, the current ones are made by Lisa Dobson. They have only seen some minor changes over the years, with crystals being incorporated in the 1990s and shorter Lucchese cowboy boots in 2011. Attention to detail and quality workmanship also ensure durability and aesthetics, which greatly enhance the DCC’s image.

These costumes are not mere attires; they reflect the DCC’s professionalism and passion. Their importance in culture is unmatched and even displayed at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. Though they are a considerable expense to the team, the effect these costumes have on the crowd and the game cannot be ignored, making them crucial for the Dallas Cowboys’ image.
