New Kids on the Block were the first group of the 1990s boy band wave to really hit it big (in fact they started out in the 1980s) with posters plastered all over the bedroom walls of teenage girls across the nation and their hits piped through non-stop on MTV and radio stations worldwide. No longer “new” or “kids” these days as they are all well into their fifties, the members of New Kids on the Block have embraced their fans’ love of nostalgia, releasing three albums since their reunion in 2008. Their eighth studio album Still Kids was released on May 17, 2024.

Not many people beyond their most diehard fans will remember that the first album made by New Kids on the Block in 1986 (entitled simply New Kids on the Block) was a complete flop. The band had to perform wherever they could at the time, even local bars and high school dances, but they stuck at it and broke through with their aptly titled sophomore album Hangin’ Tough in 1988. Capitalizing on cultural shifts and burgeoning television music stations, New Kids on the Block hit the peak of their fame in the early 1990s with Step by Step. They split up in 1995 but reunited in 2008 and have performed on and off ever since. Singer Donnie Wahlberg’s younger brother Mark Wahlberg, now an acclaimed Hollywood actor and director, was briefly a member of the group in its earliest days.
Estimates of the New Kids on the Block’s collective net worth range from $250-300 million, with large differences between members based on their activities outside the band (television careers, etc.). With over 80 million records sold, the band members banked a lot of wealth early in their careers and have continued to do so through sold out concerts, online media, merchandise sales, and endorsements.
While calculating New Kids on the Block’s exact annual income is difficult, their songs are streamed close to 200,000 times per day on average, according to Spotify’s estimate from June 4, 2024. Such numbers mean that streaming likely brings in about $9,200 per day for the band, leading to $292,000 of annual income from streaming alone.
New Kids on the Block are also reported to make something in the vicinity of $200,000 per concert appearance (estimates vary). With 47 concerts scheduled for 2024, live performances should allow the group to rack up at least $9.4 million this year.
Factoring in merchandising, endorsements, and other sources of income, New Kids on the Block should stand to make at least $10 million of income in 2024.
Fans should note that any attempt to estimate annual income and net worth is highly challenging due to the complex nature of income from ticket sales, recording royalties, assets, merchandising, and endorsements. Most financial information is also kept private and not released to the general public.
