Slipknot is a band out of a nightmare, all clown masks and hockey goalie masks (the Jason kind…yikes), and their music matches their fashion sense, driving and pounding from the opening bar with heavy, dark minor chords and percussion that means business. Lots of metal bands from the 1980s explored the darker themes of life, but Slipknot took this to whole new (at times controversial) levels, but the anger and frustration in their lyrics and music gained traction with the disillusioned youths of the 1990s and continues to do so today. Many of the band’s members have come and gone over the years, but Slipknot keeps on touring and releasing music. And haunting your parents’ dreams, of course.

Slipknot was born as a band not from the depths of Hell as some of their fans may believe, but from the rather more prosaic surroundings of Des Moines, Iowa, in 1995. The original members were percussionist Shawn Crahan (chillingly known as Clown), vocalist Anders Colsefni, and bassist Paul Gray, though Colsefni left the band in 1997, and Gray passed away in 2010 of a drug overdose, leaving Crahan/Clown as the only remaining original member. Their concerts were absolutely wild in their early years but have toned things down (slightly) since in terms of behavior (if not their music!). Because they wear masks in their shows, the members of Slipknot are mostly quite anonymous in public despite their band’s fame.
According to the Net Worth Spot website, Slipknot’s current net worth is reported at an estimated combined total of $10 million. Shawn “Clown” Crahan’s personal net worth is estimated at $1 million. Fans should note that calculating net worth is notoriously difficult due to the complex nature of accounting for ticket sales, recording royalties, assets, merchandising, and endorsements, and the fact that most financial information remains private.
