Home Teams: Kansas City Royals (MLB)
Kauffman Stadium has been home to the Kansas City Royals for half a century, ever since it hosted its very first baseball game on April 10, 1973, with the home team christening the new park in style with a 12-1 demolition of the Texas Rangers. By 1976, crowds at Kauffman Stadium, or “The K” as it came to be known, were watching their Royals in the playoffs, where the team lost three years in a row to the New York Yankeesbefore at last beating them to progress to the 1980 World Series. The Royals lost that year, but came back again in 1985 and managed to upset the St. Louis Cardinals in an enthralling Battle of Missouri that went the full distance, with the Royals winning their first-ever World Series in Game Seven in front of their own fans at Kauffman Stadium. Since that day, the Royals have been to two more World Series, winning it all again in 2016. Kauffman Stadium itself, while definitely a member of the “functional” school of American stadium design popular at the time it was built, is nonetheless an attractive ballpark amidst pleasant green surroundings, perched alongside the Kansas City Chiefs football stadium, GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. Kauffman Stadium is well-known for the large fountain and waterfall beyond its right-field fence. Along with all regular season and playoff Royals home games, Kauffman Stadium has hosted large concerts from time to time. Hungry visitors to Kauffman Stadium will not be hungry for long, with everything from Kansas City barbecue and smoked chicken wings to tacos and onion ring towers. Team and event merchandise featuring the Royals colors and logo can be found at the many shops and kiosks all around the ballpark.
While it is now one of the smaller venues* in MLB, Kauffman Stadium still contains a wide range of different seating options for visitors to choose from. Those looking for an exclusive gameday experience can opt for premium seating in luxury suites or club seating areas such as the Diamond Club or Triple Crown Club, which offer superb views from behind home plate along with top-notch hospitality service. If you are looking for a more affordable day out, Kauffman Stadium also has extensive general seating ranging from more expensive infield seats to cheaper seats in the upper deck and out beyond the outfield fences.
