Outside their loyal local fanbase, many baseball fans tend to forget how long the Texas Rangers have actually been around. Hot on the heels of the Houston Astros, the first MLB team in Texas, the Rangers arrived in Arlington (between Dallas and Fort Worth) in 1972 to play alongside the storied Dallas Cowboys of the NFL. They called themselves the Texas Rangers after the cowboy law enforcers who “opened” the Lone Star State to migration from the American East in the 1800s. The team was a bit of a joke for nearly four decades, making the playoffs just 3 times in its first 38 seasons! The Rangers finally gave their fans something to cheer about in 2010 and 2011 when they made it to back-to-back World Series, but lost both. 2023 proved to be the Rangers’ crowning moment. After sneaking into the playoffs via the Wild Card, they progressed to an all-Texas showdown against the Astros in the ALCS, winning in seven and going on to win their first-ever World Series over fellow desert dwellers, the Arizona Diamondbacks. Can they repeat this success again in 2024? Get your Texas Rangers tickets from TicketX and be there to find out!
Nothing gets MLB baseball fans up all fired up like watching their team hit the diamond against a major rival. Here are two of the Texas Rangers’ most significant rivalries.
Known as the Lone Star Series, the rivalry between Texas’s two MLB franchises, the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros was long just theoretical, as Houston played in the National League and Texas played in the American League (with no chance of the two struggling teams meeting one another in the World Series!). The beginning of inter-league play in 1997 led to the first annual regular season games between the pair, with a silver cowboy boot trophy awarded to the team who won more of those games. When the Astros joined the American League in 2013, moving into the same division as the Rangers, the rivalry really heated up. Both teams growing stronger in the past couple of decades has led to some extremely exciting division races, including in 2023 when they finished with identical regular season records (90-73). The Astros won the division on head-to-head meetings (9-4) but the Rangers got their own back in the postseason, beating the Astros in the ALCS in Game 7 en route to winning the World Series. The teams play one another 13 times in 2024, with 7 games in Arlington/Dallas and 6 games in Houston.
The rivalry between the Texas Rangers and the Los Angeles Angels technically goes back to the 1970s, but no one would have called it much of a rivalry until the 2000s given that neither team was much good before then. After the turn of the millennium, battles for divisional supremacy and postseason appearances revved up between the Rangers and Angels, with fairly evenly balanced results. The teams have never met one another in the postseason (yet). Texas and Los Angeles are set to play one another 13 times in 2024, with 7 games in Arlington/Dallas and 6 games in Anaheim/Los Angeles.
There will be 12 teams who make the 2024 Playoffs: six from the American League and six from the National League. Four of the six will have to play in the Wild Card Series to try to advance to the ALDS and NLDS. Last year, the AL’s 5th-seeded Texas Rangers and the NL’s 6th-seeded Arizona Diamondbacks shocked the baseball universe by advancing to the 2023 World Series, where the Rangers defeated the Diamondbacks, 4-1.
It doesn’t seem either of those teams will get to the 2024 World Series, with traditional powerhouses like the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers off to nice stars in their leagues behind Juan Soto and Shohei Ohtani. And with upstart teams like the Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Guardians, and Kansas City Royals in the AL and the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies in the NL, there will certainly be four good teams playing in the ALCS and NLCS.
There seem to be only five teams—two from the AL and three from the NL—who could end up meeting in the 2024 World Series. The Yankees have been a pleasant surprise in the Senior Circuit, and oddsmakers at DraftKings currently have Aaron Judge and the Bronx Bombers at +600 (6/1) to win the Fall Classic, with their AL East rivals, the Baltimore Orioles, priced at +900 (9/1).
In the Junior Circuit, things should be a little bit harder with the Dodgers (3/1), Braves (4/1), and Phillies (+850). Two of these three solid teams are likely to have to go through one of the others in both the NLCS and NLCS just to get to the World Series.
With Soto playing so well in the Bronx and big bats like Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Anthony Rizzo, look for the Yankees to be in the World Series with the Orioles more talented but still very young. And despite the generational talent of the Braves and Dodgers rosters, look for the Phillies to find a way to advance in October.
Why? Philadelphia’s infield is tremendous, with Bryce Harper (1B), Bryson Stott (2B), Trea Turner (SS), and Alex Bohm (3B). With pitchers Ranger Suárez (8-0) and Aaron Nola (6-2) off to great starts, the Phillies should find a way to outscore all opponents and knock off the Yankees in the 2024 World Series.

The first pitches of the MLB preseason (Spring Training) are generally thrown in late February, continuing through March until the regular season opener in late April. Like all MLB teams, the Texas Rangers usually play approximately 25-30 preseason games at various locations (generally in warmer climates) followed by the 162 games of the regular season. The MLB regular season finishes at the end of September, followed immediately by the MLB Playoffs/Postseason in October. Fans should note that some preseason games take place in non-MLB North American markets or even overseas in other countries (such as South Korea in 2024).
Although preseason games do not contribute to any team’s success in the MLB regular season standings, you shouldn’t completely write them off! Not only are tickets to preseason games much cheaper, but they also allow baseball fans the earliest sneak peek at exciting new draft picks and other young players who could bolster the Texas Rangers lineup in the upcoming season. And with tickets at cheaper prices from TicketX, premium seats are also much more affordable, so you can get right up close to the infield to see (and hear) all the action!
As reigning World Series champions, it might be tempting for the Texas Rangers to rest on their laurels a bit. In baseball, however, if you stand still, yerrr out! So the Texas Rangers will definitely be looking to add depth to their roster via free agents, new talent from the draft, or trades with other franchises. They have been linked recently, for example, with Japanese ace Roki Sasaki, but then so have a lot of teams! The 2024 MLB trade deadline is July 30, meaning that the Rangers will need to get moving if they want any chance at their top trade targets.
Having just opened in 2020, Globe Life Field might still just be in the infancy of its tenure as home of the Texas Rangers, but it has already paid witness to the franchise’s crowning achievement: a first-ever World Series victory in 2023. This championship was made all the sweeter for Rangers fans by the fact that they had defeated their local Texas rivals the Houston Astros in the ALCS en route. Attendances at Rangers games have improved thanks to Globe Life Field due to the ability of its retractable roof that protects fans and players from the elements when the weather gets hot or rainy. Large glass panels also allow plenty of natural light into the stadium even when the roof is closed. As well as all regular season and playoff Rangers home games, Globe Life Field hosts concerts, college football games, and rodeo competitions. Visitors arriving at Globe Life Field feeling peckish will find plenty of tasty treats, from classic ballpark food like hot dogs, popcorn, and nachos to more creative options like the massive Boomstick Burger (feeds up to four), Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Pretzel, and corn ribs. This being Texas, you can also find many Tex-Mex options as well as plenty of craft beer.
There is no direct public transportation to Globe Life Field, though visitors can take the train from Dallas to downtown Arlington and then catch a taxi or private shuttle to the ballpark. Most fans arrive at Globe Life Field in their own cars. This is quite straightforward if you plan your route in advance, but do be aware that traffic tends to get heavy around the stadium prior to games and big events. Leave home early. Huge dedicated stadium parking lots surround Globe Life Field and its neighbor AT&T Stadium, but it is still best to reserve a parking spot in advance ($10-35). Head to the official Globe Life Field website for maps, driving direction, and full parking details.
The Globe Life Field bag policy recommends that guests ideally not bring any bags at all. If you must bring a bag, the maximum size is 16” x 16” x 8.” Backpacks, coolers, and hard-sided bags or containers are prohibited. You may bring in one clear plastic bag (maximum size: 1 gallon).
Globe Life Field has an extensive list of rules set up to try and ensure a safe, enjoyable day at the venue for you, your friends, and everyone else. Most of these rules are common sense, but some to remember include:
