About Chris Brown

Dubbed the “King of R&B,” Chris Brown is a 35-year-old American performer who works in a number of genres including pop, hip-hop, and R&B. The product of Tappahannock, Virginia, Brown is well known for his prowess as a dancer, much like Michael Jackson.

Brown signed with Jive Records in 2004 and released his eponymous album Chris Brown in 2005. That debut album went triple platinum and Brown had a big hit and topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart with his debut single Run It!”.

His second studio album, “Exclusive,” was also a hit, with the single “Kiss Kiss” also rising to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2007.

Brown taught himself to sing and dance and began performing in his church’s choir and at local talent shows. During a summer camp, an 11-year-old Brown performed Sisqó’s "Thong Song" and realized he had a knack for performing. Brown dropped out of Essex High School in Tappahannock, Virginia at age 16 to pursue a career in music.

Brown now has 11 studio albums and his last was appropriately titled 11:11 and consisted of two albums with the two sides containing 11 songs each. Brown went on tour last year in support of that album.

Besides music, Brown—who has dated Rihanna—is also known for making graffiti street art and acting. He is one of the best-selling music artists of all-time, selling over 140 million records globally and racking up 114.5 RIAA-certified digital singles in the US.

This is the most ever recorded by any male R&B singer in history and ranks an impressive 11th among all artists in all genres—tied with Beyoncé. The No. 1 artist? That would be Rihanna (257,560,000 units sold) followed by Eminem (204,920,000), Drake (172,065,000), and Jay-Z (170,545,000).
