MetLife Stadium Events

MetLife Stadium is one of just three professional sports venues in Canada and the United States to be home to multiple teams from the same league (the other two are both in Los Angeles: Crypto.com Arena, home to the Clippers and Lakers of the NBA, and SoFi Stadium, home to the Rams and Chargers of the NFL). The twin tenants of MetLife Stadium, the NFL’s New York Giants and New York Jets, have shared a stadium since 1984. There is not as much of a rivalry as you might think, though, as the two play in separate conferences, meaning that they only meet once every four years in inter-conference matchups (they could meet in the Super Bowl, but no one is holding their breath for that to happen any time soon). The rivalry between the teams is sometimes compared to that of the Yankees and Mets, with the Giants being historically stronger. When they do play one another, the game is referred to mockingly as “the shortest road trip in the league” for obvious reasons, with the idea of a home team rendered somewhat ridiculous. Adding to this air of mild amusement is the fact that MetLife Stadium is not even in New York state, let alone New York City, but rather in New Jersey. Along with all regular season and playoff Giants and New York Jets home games, MetLife Stadium plays host to a packed calendar of NCAA college football games, big concerts, outdoor hockey games, and international soccer matches. The venue has been chosen as one of the American venues for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Visitors who arrive hungry at MetLife Stadium will soon find something delicious to snack on, with everything from braised pork and corned beef sandwiches to gyros and dumplings. Kiosks and shops throughout the stadium hawk team and event merchandise, particularly in the colors of its two NFL teams.
