Minnesota United FC joined MLS in 2017 as an expansion team from the NASL (the new NASL, not the Pele and George Best one…), where they had been quite successful, winning the title in 2011. While Minnesota United FC failed to make the MLS Playoffs in their first two seasons, they managed to crack the postseason for the first time in 2019, though they were promptly knocked out in the First Round 2-1 by the LA Galaxy. Minnesota had better luck that year in the US Open Cup, however, getting all the way to the Final before falling to Atlanta United FC 2-1. The team has continued to do fairly well, making the playoffs in 4 of the last 5 seasons (missing out in 2023) and reaching the MLS Playoffs semifinals in the COVID-affected 2020 season, where they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker to the Seattle Sounders. Minnesota United FC supporters will be hoping that 2023 was just a blip and that their team will push on to greater things in 2023 and beyond!
