It’s hard to put your finger on what makes the music of Creed, one of the best-selling rock bands of all time, so inspiring and uplifting. Maybe it’s the unique flavor of lead vocalist Scott Stapp’s voice as it soars over the power chords of Mark Tremonti, thudding bass lines of Brian Marshall, and thumping drums of Scott Phillips. Creed rose to prominence out of unlikely beginnings, starting out in Tallahassee, Florida, not exactly a spot known for producing kickass rock musicians. Stapp and Marshall had been friends at Florida State University there, where they began writing music and lyrics. Interestingly, the name “Creed” was inspired by Stapp’s life, due to his father’s work as a Christian minister, though the band’s music is generally only loosely inspired by such themes, sounds, and ideas. Creed hit the big time in the late 1990s with their debut album My Own Prison and soon began touring and recording on a large scale with huge sales and crowds everywhere they went. Marshall left for a time due to problems with alcohol (though he would later return) and the band eventually broke up in 2004. Since then, they have reunited twice, including their most recent reunion in 2023. Head to TicketX for the rare chance to see Creed live in concert while their reunion shows last.
