Cross Insurance Center, located in Bangor, Maine, USA, is a versatile venue with a seating capacity of 5,800 for various events. This arena can accommodate up to 8,500 people during concerts and includes an adjacent convention center that holds 2,000 individuals. Constructed with an estimated investment of $65 million, it forms a part of the Bass Park complex, situated opposite the Hollywood Casino Bangor. The center is home to Maine Black Bears basketball teams. Previously, the Bangor Auditorium, a notable 5,948-seat multipurpose arena in downtown Bangor, was famous for hosting the Maine Principals' Association basketball tournament each February, an event televised by the Maine Public Broadcasting Network. By the late 2000s, discussions about replacing the arena began, leading to a public referendum in May 2011. The voters decisively favored the construction of new facilities to replace the Auditorium and Civic Center by a 3 to 1 ratio. Demolition of the old Bangor Auditorium and Civic Center started on June 3, 2013, making way for the new arena's completion. Cross Insurance Center is operated by Spectra, a Comcast subsidiary. The naming rights for the arena, initially referred to as "Bangor Arena," were secured by Cross Insurance Agency for $3 million on July 20, 2012. The University of Maine announced on July 31, 2013, that the Maine Black Bears basketball teams would host over half of their games at the newly established arena, marking a new chapter for sports and entertainment in the region.
