There is no nice way to say this. Since the start of the Super Bowl era, the Detroit Lions have probably been the worst team in the NFL. Prior to the 2023 season, the team had won just one playoff game since 1957, and in 2008, the Lions infamously recorded the worst NFL season of all time (0-16). And so Lions fans were in uncharted territory in 2023 when their team not only made the postseason but beat the Los Angeles Rams and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before losing a 34-31 heartbreaker to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship. Can the Lions go one step further and win their first-ever Super Bowl in 2024? Get your Detroit Lions tickets from TicketX and be there to find out!
Nothing excites NFL football fans more than when their team takes to the gridiron against one of their biggest rivals. Here are two of the Detroit Lions’ most significant rivalries.
The Detroit Lions’ rivalry with the Chicago Bears is particularly fierce as it is part of the deep multi-sport rivalry between the two cities of Detroit and Chicago (Pistons-Bulls, Red Wings-Blackhawks, Tigers-White Sox). Neither team has been very good over the years, so their fans have had to be content with beating one another. The teams split their two games in 2023, but the Lions made the postseason, getting all the way to the NFC Championship, while the Bears missed the playoffs completely. Plenty of pride will be at stake when the two teams meet on November 28, 2024, at Ford Field in Detroit and December 22 at Soldier Field in Chicago.
The local rivalry between the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers goes all the way back to 1930 before the Lions were even called the Lions or located in Detroit. The two longtime divisional rivals have met twice per year since 1932, making this the longest unbroken rivalry in the NFL. With 4 Super Bowls, the Packers have been far more successful than the Lions over the years, though the teams split their games in 2023, and it was the Lions who went further in the postseason. Fans will be pumped when these longtime rivals meet this season on November 3, 2024, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay and December 5 at Ford Field in Detroit.
The Detroit Lions' preseason will start on August 8, 2024, against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. They will then play next against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City on August 17 before returning to Ford Field in Detroit for their final preseason matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers on August 24.
The prices of tickets to Detroit Lions preseason games vary depending on the opposing team and the location of the game. As one example, we looked at the prices of tickets to the Lions preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Ford Field in Detroit on August 24.

While preseason games do not count towards point tallies in the NFL regular season, do not completely write them off! Not only are tickets to preseason games much cheaper, but they also allow you to get a sneak peek of some of the upcoming exciting new players that might be joining the Detroit Lions this summer. With lower prices from TicketX, you can also afford to sit closer to the field for unbeatable close-up views of all your favorite Detroit Lions players in action.
Despite their success last season, the Detroit Lions are always looking to bolster their squad with free agents, new talent from the draft, and trades with other franchises. Fans breathed a sigh of relief when star quarterback Jared Goff inked a new deal, but the Lions seem keen to add a few players to their special teams unit, especially a field goal kicker. Jake Bates of the Michigan Panthers (UFL) seems to be the name people are talking about. They would also like to add a top cornerback and have been rumored to be looking hard at L'Jarius Sneed of the Kansas City Chiefs.
There will be 14 teams that qualify for the Postseason—seven from the AFC and seven from the NFC—and despite an influx of new and talented QBs drafted by teams in the 2024 NFL Draft, expect at least 11 of the same teams in the NFL Playoffs as last season.
So, who are the four that might not make it this time and who didn’t make the Playoffs last year but might in the 2024-25 season? The Buccaneers, Browns, and Steelers may find it harder this time around, with the Falcons, Bengals, and Jets possibly making the Wild Card round.
Last season, the Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers met in the NFC Championship Game, and the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs collided in the AFC Championship Game, with the 49ers meeting the Chiefs in the Super Bowl in Las Vegas.
Expect those four heavyweights, along with the Packers, Eagles, Cowboys, and Rams in the NFC and the Texans and Bills in the AFC, to make it back to the NFL Playoffs next season.
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs will be seeking their third straight Super Bowl win. With genius Head Coach Andy Reid, TE Travis Kelce, and a much-improved defense, they are the best team in the AFC and have lofty expectations. The Lions had the Niners on the ropes last year and have steadily improved the last two seasons. They are eyeballing a shot at the Super Bowl and have the skill position players and chip on their shoulders.
So Jared Goff and Detroit (12/1 to win the Super Bowl, DraftKings) could meet the best player in the NFL—Mahomes—and his Chiefs (+550) in Super Bowl LIX at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Sunday, February 9, 2025.

Home to the Detroit Lions since 2002, Ford Field was designed as an interesting nod to the Motor City’s past as a trade and manufacturing hub. The stadium itself incorporates a former Hudson’s warehouse that was constructed back in the 1920s, and the ceiling’s frosted windows pay tribute to Detroit’s legendary automobile factories. There were discussions about installing a retractable roof, but these plans were eventually shelved, so Ford Field is a closed dome stadium. Along with all regular season and playoff Lions home games, Ford Field has also hosted high school and college football games, concerts, motorsports, and international soccer matches.
While it is technically possible to get to Ford Field on the public bus, it is not easy nor convenient (nor safe, from some locations). Taking a taxi to the stadium or driving in one’s own car are preferable options. Plan to arrive early to avoid traffic jams. There is good on-site parking at Ford Field in the surrounding parking lots. Visit Ford Field’s official website for maps, driving directions, and to book prepaid parking at the venue (generally $30-70).
Ford Field’s official website has excellent maps and detailed driving directions.
The Ford Field bag policy states that fans can carry in bags made of clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC (up to 12" x 6" x 12" in size), one-gallon clear plastic freezer bags (e.g., Ziploc bags), and small clutch bags, cameras, or binocular cases (maximum 4.5" x 6.5").
There are many rules at Ford Field to be followed in order to ensure a safe and fun day for everyone at the stadium, though most of these are common sense.
Bag Searches - all visitors entering the stadium may be searched and should be prepared to open their bags for inspection.
Strollers and Car Seat Carriers these items are not permitted in the stadium
Prohibited Items - long lens cameras (over 5 inches), confetti, drones, laptops, tripods, wearable cameras, fireworks, laser pointers, weapons, and umbrellas are prohibited. Check the stadium’s FAQ page for a full list.
Smoking Areas - smoking, including vapes and electronic cigarettes, is only permitted outdoors at these two locations: Gate D Level 1 - Section 128/129, Gate E – Section 225.
Visit the stadium’s FAQ page for a full list of rules at Ford Field.
There are many fine hotels within walking distance of Ford Field, including the Hilton Garden Detroit Downtown, the Greektown Casino Hotel, and the Shinola Hotel.
Ford Field provides its guests with some interesting seating options due to its somewhat unconventional architecture. Because the south side of the stadium incorporates the old warehouse, most of the premium seating (suites and lounges) is located on this side, with grandstand seating lining the two end zones and the north side of the stadium. This general seating area contains a wide selection of mid-range and cheaper seats to suit all preferences and budgets. Visit TicketX to check which tickets are available to games or events at Ford Field, and make use of our handy seating chart to compare seating options.
