Deer Tick is an alternative rock/folk band consisting of John J. McCauley, Christopher Ryan, and Dennis Ryan. The group hails from Providence, Rhode Island and has been described as having rock, blues, country, and folk influences. The members rebel against the country genre and often play cover versions of other artists’ songs in their sets. They have performed entire sets as “Deervana”, a cover band they use to play Nirvana songs. Their inspiration for their band name came from hiking in 2005 where one member had a deer tick on his scalp, his first experience with the critter, though he grew up camping and fishing. Deer Tick started in 2004 as My Other Face but changed direction away from heavier rock and found a new name. They played their first gig in Providence at The Growroom and sold handmade CDs for a year.
