About Thundercat

Thundercat is the stage name of Stephen Bruner, a Los Angeles-born bassist, singer, and songwriter whose music blends funk, soul, progressive R&B, psychedelia, and jazz fusion. He first gained attention playing bass in the thrash band Suicidal Tendencies before launching his solo career with 2011's The Golden Age of Apocalypse on the Brainfeeder label. His virtuosic six-string bass playing and offbeat humor earned him a Grammy for his contribution to Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly and a second for his 2020 album It Is What It Is. In April 2026 he released his fifth studio album, Distracted, and this fall he headlines the 32-date Distracted AF Tour across North America.
