Philadelphia Orchestra is a symphony orchestra known as one of “The Big Five”. Based in Philadelphia, the orchestra performs locally at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. It performs over 130 annual subscription concerts. The orchestra was founded in 1900 and originally gave concerts at the Academy of Music. The group returns to the Academy once a year for a gala and concert for school children. Their summer home is the Mann Center for the Performing Arts, but they also have summer residencies in other locations, such as the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. They also often travel to Vail, Colorado for the Bravo! Vail Valley Festival in the summer. The busy orchestra even performs its annual concert series at Carnegie Hall. They have an extensive number of recordings with Columbia Records and RCA Victor. The current music director has been at the helm since 2012.
