Conference: Western

Division: Northwest

Stadium: Delta Center (capacity 18,306)

Head Coach: Will Hardy (2022-present)

Star Players: Lauri Markkanen, Walker Kessler, Jordan Clarkson

2022-23 Regular Season: 31-51 (12th in Western Conference)

2023 Playoffs: Did not qualify

Legendary Former Players: Karl Malone, John Stockton, Mark Eaton

NBA Championships: 0

The Utah Jazz began life as an NBA franchise down in good ol’ New Orleans, a decidedly jazzier location than their current home in Salt Lake City (hence the name). Despite being the only top-tier professional sports team in town (albeit set, at last, to be joined by an NHL franchise in 2024-25), the Jazz initially struggled to draw crowds, as fans were displeased with the team’s poor performances on the court. Complaints grew louder after the Jazz used their first-round draft pick in 1984 to select little-known prospect John Stockton. Opinions, and attendances, soon changed, though, after the diminutive but unstoppable Stockton, joined by imposing forward Karl Malone, led the Jazz to 20 straight playoff appearances including 2 NBA Finals (1997 and 1998). Unfortunately, both were lost to Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls, the second on Jordan’s iconic buzzer-beater in Game 6 in Salt Lake City. The Jazz have not yet reached such heights again, but Utah Jazz fans are now looking to young stars like Lauri Markkanen and Walker Kessler in the hopes that the team can change their tune in the near future. Get your Utah Jazz tickets from TicketX today!

Rival Teams

Nothing gets NBA basketball fans all revved up like watching their team square off against one of its biggest rivals on the hardcourt. Here are two of the Utah Jazz’ most heated rivalries.

Utah Jazz vs Denver Nuggets

The Utah Jazz’s rivalry with the Denver Nuggets is mostly a local rivalry, based on the fact that the Jazz and Nuggets are the only teams based in the American Rockies (though only in North America’s West would a 500-mile distance ever be considered “local”). The Nuggets were not really good enough to be much of a rival to the Jazz in their heyday, with the situation currently flipped (the Nuggets have outstripped the hapless Jazz). The two teams usually play four times per season (plus Playoffs, if they meet!), so 2024-25 should also see 2 games at Ball Arena in Denver and 2 games at Delta Center in Salt Lake City.

Utah Jazz vs Houston Rockets

The Utah Jazz and Houston Rockets developed an intense rivalry in the mid-1990s when the Rockets, led by Clyde Drexler and Hakeem Olajuwon, contested several memorable clashes in the NBA Playoffs against Malone and Stockton’s Jazz. While the Rockets were victorious in their first two encounters, the Jazz got their revenge in 1997 and 1998, beating Houston en route to two NBA Finals. The series was all marked by fierce physical play and several dramatic last-minute shots. The Jazz should play the Rockets twice in the 2024-25 regular season, with the games split between Toyota Center in Houston and Delta Center in Salt Lake City.

2024-25 NBA Season Predictions

Which Teams Will Go To the 2024-25 NBA Playoffs?

There are 20 teams—10 from the Eastern Conference and 10 from the Western Conference—who make the NBA Playoffs. The eight No. 7-10 seeds have to face two do-or-die Play-In games to advance to the final eight in each conference. The 76ers and Heat won that honor in the East in 2024, with the Lakers and Hornets earning that reality in the West.

But with the Western Conference so competitive, Victor Wenbayama, the Spurs, and the Kings improving, and teams like the young Oklahoma City Thunder and Minnesota Timberwolves on the upswing, the days of seeing the aging Los Angeles LakersLos Angeles Clippers, and Phoenix Suns in the NBA Playoffs may be quickly approaching.

In the East in the 2024-25 NBA season, we can expect the Celtics, 76ers, Knicks, Bucks, Heat, Cavaliers, Magic, and Pacers back in the Postseason, with the Nets, Hawks, and Bulls fighting it out for the final two Play-in spots.

In the West, Anthony Edwards and the TimberwolvesChet Holmgren and the ThunderNikola Jokić and the Nuggets, and Luka Dončić and the Mavericks are bound to make the Playoffs again. As many as eight or nine teams, including the aforementioned Lakers, Clippers, Suns, Kings, Pelicans, Spurs, improving Rockets, and Steph Curry and the Warriors, are fighting for those final six spots.

Which Two Teams Will Go To the 2025 NBA Finals and Why?

There have been five different NBA champions over the last five seasons—the Toronto Raptors, Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks, Golden State Warriors, and Denver Nuggets—and with the Boston Celtics and Indiana Pacers meeting in the 2024 Eastern Conference Finals and the Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2024 Western Conference Finals, it means a guaranteed six different champions in six years.

Who might we see in the 2025 NBA Finals? The Celtics have the best starting five in the Eastern Conference: Kristaps Porziņģis, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, and Jrue Holiday. The C’s will again be the team to beat in the East, especially if Porziņģis can remain injury-free. In the West, it should be a three-team battle between OKC, Minnesota, and Denver, with the new face of the NBA, Edwards, leading his team to the promised land.

2024-25 NBA Finals Prediction: Celtics over Timberwolves, 4-3

When do the 2024-25 NBA Season and Preseason start for the Utah Jazz?

Tip-off for the NBA preseason usually happens in early October (the full preseason game schedule is typically released in mid-to late August, though some teams announce their schedule early, individually). Like other NBA teams, the Utah Jazz tend to play 3-5 preseason games at various locations to warm up for the upcoming 2024-25 NBA regular season. Note that some preseason games do take place in non-NBA American markets or even overseas in other countries, as with two NBA preseason games this year to be held in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The NBA regular season starts at the end of October, running until early April, followed by the NBA Playoffs.

Why should you buy tickets to Utah Jazz preseason games?

While preseason games do not factor directly into the standings of the NBA regular season, don’t completely write them off! Tickets to preseason games tend to be markedly cheaper and also give fans a sneak peek at exciting new draft picks and other young players who might be superstars for the Utah Jazz in 2024-25 and beyond. Also, with tickets at cheaper prices from TicketX, this might be your chance to try out those premium seats you’ve always had your eye on, with unparalleled close-up views of your favorite Utah Jazz players!

Utah Jazz Trade Rumors and Draft Picks

After a second consecutive disappointing 12th-place conference regular season and another year in the postseason hinterlands in 2023-24, the Utah Jazz will be desperate to retool their team with free agents, new talent from the draft, or trades with other franchises this summer. In the 2024 NBA Draft, the Jazz selected versatile shooting guard/forward Cody Williams in the 1st round and will be counting on the youngster to add some scoring and poise to their backcourt. Trades or free agency are also possible avenues to improvement, with rumors swirling around Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski of the Golden State Warriors or Keldon Johnson of the San Antonio Spurs as potential Jazz trade targets.

Delta Center

Delta Center in Salt Lake City witnessed one of the most iconic moments in all of basketball history in Game Six of the 1998 NBA Finals when Michael Jordan loosed one of his trademark jump shot that beat the buzzer and broke hearts all across the state of Utah. To this day, Jordan and his teammates still talk about the Delta Center’s fearsome atmosphere during those games. As the only top-tier sports team in the state, the Jazz have long been the biggest draw at Delta Center, though they are set to be joined by a new NHL hockey franchise (name pending) starting from 2024-25. Delta Center hosts every regular season and playoff Jazz home game (and will do the same for the NHL team) alongside a full slate of concerts, cultural events, and other sporting competitions. Visitors are unlikely to leave the venue hungry, with everything from savory barbecue to Korean bowls to Mexican food on the menu.

How to get to Delta Center

Delta Center is accessible via the UTA TRAX light rail system (just get off at Arena Station and cross the street). Many visitors to the Delta Center elect to arrive in their own vehicles, which is fairly easy if you budget extra time to get through game day traffic. There are plenty of large parking lots available all around the Delta Center, but it is still recommended to purchase parking passes in advance ($10-40). Visit Delta Center’s official website for maps, driving directions, and parking information.

Delta Center Bag Policy

The Delta Center bag policy allows only for small clutches and wallets (maximum size: 4” x 6” x 2”) to be brought into the venue, as well as diaper bags and medical bags up to 14” x 14” x 6” (subject to inspection). No other bags are permitted.

Delta Center Rules

Delta Center has a comprehensive list of rules designed to promote a safe and enjoyable day for everyone. Most rules are common sense, but here are a few key ones to bear in mind:

  • Alcohol Sales - alcohol sales require visitors to produce valid photo IDs. Sales of alcohol cease at the end of the third quarter for basketball games. Management may refuse alcohol service at their discretion.

  • Banners and Signs - banners and signs are permitted but cannot exceed 11” x 17” and must not obstruct existing signage or the view of other patrons. No poles or sticks may be attached, nor may signs be attached to the building in any way. Offensive, obscene, or commercial messages and images are prohibited.

  • Doors Open - doors open to NBA games 90 minutes before the whistle blows and the game tips off!

  • Smoking - smoking is not allowed at Delta Center, apart from a single smoking area outside Door 9 on the main level. No e-cigarettes, vapes, or similar are allowed either.

Visit the stadium’s A-Z guide for a full list of rules at Delta Center.

Delta Center Seat Reviews

Fans who have attended games and other events at Delta Center have submitted reviews of various seats inside the venue. According to rateyourseats.com, fans who sat in floor seats raved about the experience for both basketball games and concerts, reveling in the chance to see their heroes up close. Some who spent games in the 100 level, however, had some complaints about legroom and seat width, stating that their knees were pressed into the seats in front of them. Fans who sat higher up didn’t seem to mind their seats too much, praising the sweeping views of the court. Please note that every review is the opinion of an individual visitor and therefore subjective. Experiences and preferences vary from person to person, and game to game.

Because Delta Center is the home of the Utah Jazz, you’ll have a good chance of seeing top NBA players like the Jazz’s incredible Finnish wonderboy Lauri Markkanen, alongside Walker Kessler and Jordan Clarkson, up against many exciting players from visiting teams.
