About Climax Series

The Climax Series is Nippon Professional Baseball's postseason playoff, held each October in both the Central League and Pacific League to decide who advances to the Japan Series. Introduced in both leagues in 2007, it features the top three teams in each league: the second- and third-place clubs meet in a best-of-three First Stage at the second-place team's home park, and the winner advances to the Final Stage against the pennant winner, which starts with a one-win advantage. Under a rule change introduced in 2026, that advantage can increase to two wins in a seven-game Final Stage in certain cases. The 2026 Climax Series begins on October 10, with the Yomiuri Giants hosting the Yokohama DeNA BayStars at Tokyo Dome and the Saitama Seibu Lions hosting the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters at Belluna Dome, while Central League champion Hanshin awaits at Koshien.
