On the field, Austin FC have had a bit of an up and down introduction to MLS, with the team’s first season spent at the bottom of the Western Conference followed by an incredible run in 2022 when Austin not only made the MLS Playoffs but surged through to the Conference Finals (semifinals). They were 90 minutes away from an MLS Cup Final in just their second season as a team, but came up against a tough test against the eventual champions Los Angeles FC, who saw them off 3-0. Big things were expected in 2023, but things never quite came together and Austin FC missed out on the playoffs. With talented players like Sebastián Driussi banging the goals in up front and Brad Stuver keeping them out at the back, however, surely 2024 might be the year we see Austin FC do what their city does best: showing the big boys that they are here for good and will be a force to be reckoned with.
