Phish are an American rock band formed at the University of Vermont in 1983, widely regarded as the defining jam band of their era and one of the most influential live acts in the history of American music. The four-piece, Trey Anastasio (guitar, vocals), Mike Gordon (bass, vocals), Page McConnell (keyboards, vocals), and Jon Fishman (drums, vocals), built their following the same way the Grateful Dead did before them: night after night on the road, never repeating a setlist, building an improvisational language so deep and distinctive that no two Phish concerts have ever been the same in over 40 years of performing. Their catalog blends psychedelic rock, jazz, funk, bluegrass, classical composition, and experimental music in a way that defies genre, and their devoted fanbase, known as Phish Phans, follows the band from city to city across multi-show runs. In 2025, Phish performed four sold-out nights at the Sphere in Las Vegas, one of the most technically ambitious live productions in the venue's history. Their 2026 Summer Tour is a 21-date North American run kicking off July 7 at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wisconsin, including five nights at Madison Square Garden in New York (shows #92–96 at the venue since their 1994 debut), two nights at Fenway Park in Boston, and the beloved annual Labor Day Weekend three-night stand at DICK's Sporting Goods Park near Denver, concluding September 6.
No two Phish shows are ever the same. The band never repeats a setlist and every performance is built on real-time improvisation. A typical concert runs 2.5 to 3+ hours across two sets: Set 1 features tighter, song-based playing spanning 8–12 songs, while Set 2 unleashes extended improvisational jams, 20, 30, or 40-plus minute explorations that evolve nightly. First-timers are advised to arrive early, wear comfortable shoes, and surrender any expectations about what songs they'll hear. The experience of a Phish show is fundamentally communal: the Phish Phan community that travels the tour is as much a part of the experience as the music itself.
Their catalog spans 40-plus years of originals: "You Enjoy Myself," "Harry Hood," "Tweezer," "Bathtub Gin," "Mike's Song," "Weekapaug Groove," "David Bowie," "Reba," "Slave to the Traffic Light," "Runaway Jim," "Ghost," "Chalk Dust Torture," "Divided Sky," and "Fluffhead" are among the songs most likely to inspire the loudest crowd reactions — though any song can become a 20-minute journey on any given night.
Phish uses a fan-first ticket request system for major runs, a lottery-style process at tickets.phish.com that gives devoted Phans priority access before the general public on-sale. Multi-night travel packages including hotel and tickets are available for select runs including the MSG, Fenway Park, and DICK's Labor Day Weekend stops through Phish's official travel partner at phishsummer.100xhospitality.com.
