Genre: Broadway Musical

Based on the hit 1990s movie Pretty Woman starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere (yep, the one where she listens to a Walkman in her bubble bath), which was in turn inspired by the Roy Orbison hit song “Pretty Woman” from 1964, Pretty Woman: The Musical originally opened in Chicago before making its New York Broadway debut in 2018 at the Nederlander Theatre. The score for the musical was composed by Canadian rock legend Bryan Adams. While its Broadway run closed in 2019 after a successful year, Pretty Woman: The Musical has continued to tour around the world in Europe, North America, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the US.
Pretty Woman: The Musical debuted on Broadway in New York at the Nederlander Theatre on August 16, 2018, but closed just over a year later on August 18, 2019. It is occasionally still performed in New York from time to time when touring the United States. Pretty Woman: The Musical tickets are always in high demand due to nostalgia for the movie among older theatergoers and curiosity about the story among younger fans. Despite having just a one-year run on Broadway, Pretty Woman: The Musical has proven to be immensely popular among fans on tour, possibly due to a combination of its enduring storyline, the pop appeal of its music, and nostalgia for the 1990 movie. A fan who saw the show in London called it a “must see” and praised the original songs, though not everyone in the UK was a fan, as per this review in Time Out London that called the show “aggressively stupid.” This reviewer from Miami was quite complimentary of the show overall, particularly its costume design and likable characters.
Based on ATG Tickets, the total run time of Pretty Woman: The Musical is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, including an interval (intermission) of 15 minutes.
The original cast of Pretty Woman: The Musical during its initial run on Broadway featured Samantha Barks and Steve Kazee in the lead roles. On tour, the cast rotates and varies somewhat by region. Other notable actors to appear in the lead roles have included Adam Pascal, Brennin Hunt, Oliver Tompsett, and Courtney Brown. Music and lyrics for the songs in the musical were written by rock legend Bryan Adams along with Jim Vallance.
