Flipturn is an indie rock band that formed in 2015 in Fernandina Beach, Florida. Tristan Duncan, the guitarist, and Madeline Jarman, the bassist, founded the band as high school seniors along with Dillon Basse, the vocalist. After college, they grabbed two more members from the University of Florida, where they attended. The group gained popularity when they released an EP in 2018. They then signed with Dualtone Records in 2022 and released their debut album that same year. A tour followed and they appeared at popular festivals around the country. Their second studio album came out in 2025 and featured the previously released single, “Rodeo Clown.” The song showcases the idea of escaping reality and putting on a show for those around to see.
