Places (also known as The Places) is a band started by Amy Annelle, an artist from Portland, Oregon who originally hails from Chicago, getting her inspiration from the artsy and moody atmosphere of her adopted city. She began writing songs in the late 1990s, releasing her solo debut album Which One’s You? via the only (at the time) record label in Portland along with Ryan Stowe (guitar). The pair were soon joined by Alaric True (accordion, piano), Jordan Hudson (drums), and Zak Riles (bass, piano), touring and playing local gigs as Places gained a greater following online and based on live concerts. In between touring and recording, the band has weathered some turnover of members but continued to make music, including a residency spent in New York City.
