The Utah Royals have been based in Salt Lake City since 2017 – the professional women's soccer team played in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) from 2018 to 2020. In the following years, operations were suspended. In 2023, the owners of Real Salt Lake, Ryan Smith and David Blitzer, revived the team. The Royals play their games at America First Field, formerly known as Rio Tinto Stadium. Their first head coach was Laura Harvey. The Utah Royals have a distinctive badge: a golden lion's head in the colors "Claret Red", "Cobalt Blue" and "Victory Gold".
