About Ballet Austin

Ballet Austin is one of the 15 largest classical ballet companies in the United States, founded in 1956 and based in the heart of downtown Austin, Texas. Hailed by The Washington Post as "one of the nation's best kept ballet secrets," the company is led by Artistic Director Stephen Mills, who has shaped its identity since 2000 with more than 60 world premiere choreographic works. Known for its "classically innovative" approach, Ballet Austin performs a repertoire that spans classical tradition and bold new creations, and has appeared at the Kennedy Center, the Joyce Theater, and on international tours. The company operates from the Butler Dance Education Center and is complemented by the Ballet Austin Academy, one of the largest classical ballet schools in the country, serving more than 900 students annually.
