About Black Flag

Black Flag is an American hardcore punk band formed in 1976 in Hermosa Beach, California, by guitarist and primary songwriter Greg Ginn and vocalist Keith Morris, originally under the name Panic. Widely regarded as one of the pioneers of hardcore punk, the band became known for their ferocious live performances, anti-authoritarian lyrics, and relentless DIY work ethic. After multiple lineup changes, Henry Rollins joined as lead vocalist in 1981, becoming the band's most iconic frontman. Their debut album Damaged (1981) is considered a landmark of the genre. Black Flag also founded SST Records, which went on to release music by influential acts including Hüsker Dü, Minutemen, and Sonic Youth. The band disbanded in 1986 but has reunited several times since, with Greg Ginn remaining the sole continuous member throughout their history.
