About Macklemore

Macklemore (born Benjamin Hammond Haggerty on June 19, 1983) is an American rapper and songwriter from Seattle, Washington. He began his career as an independent artist in 2000 and rose to international fame through his collaboration with producer Ryan Lewis as the duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Their 2012 debut album The Heist, released independently, produced the global hits "Thrift Shop" and "Can't Hold Us," making Macklemore and Lewis the first duo in Billboard Hot 100 history to have their first two singles both reach number one. The duo won four Grammy Awards in 2014, including Best New Artist and Best Rap Album. Known for his socially conscious lyrics addressing consumerism, addiction, race, and LGBTQ rights, Macklemore has continued releasing music as a solo artist following the duo's split in 2016.
