UMI (born Tierra Umi Wilson on February 9, 1999) is an American singer and songwriter from Seattle, Washington, born to an African American father and a Japanese mother. Her stage name, UMI, translates to "ocean" in Japanese. She began sharing music on SoundCloud in high school before leaving the University of Southern California in 2019 to focus on her career. Her breakout 2018 single "Remember Me" accumulated over 150 million streams on Spotify and introduced her warm, introspective blend of R&B, neo-soul, and alternative pop to a global audience. She has since released several acclaimed projects including the EP Love Language (2019), her debut album Forest in the City (2022), and people stories (2025). UMI has toured with Conan Gray and Jhené Aiko and collaborated with BTS's V.
