Sunset Boulevard is a musical featuring songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber, based on the 1950 film. The musical revolves around Norma Desmond, a silent film star whose star has faded. A young screenwriter crosses paths with her, and she utilizes that connection to attempt a comeback. The musical opened in London in 1993 and ran internationally, touring in many different countries. Because of legal battles and running costs, the musical has lost money overall. Andrew Lloyd Webber saw the film in the 70s and wrote what he thought should be the title song for the theater version of the movie. In 1991, he asked a lawyer from New York to write lyrics for the music he created. When the musical debuted, reviewers said much of the movie was preserved, and made better, on stage with drama, darkness, and accents of music.
