About Los Retros

Los Retros is the musical project of Mauricio "Mauri" Tapia, a first-generation Mexican American from Oxnard, California. A self-taught multi-instrumentalist, Tapia began recording music at home from an early age, playing every instrument on his tracks himself and drawing on the vintage sounds his parents played, including 1960s and 1970s Latin American rock bands such as Los Angeles Negros, from whom the name Los Retros is partly derived. Originally formed as a band called Retrospect in 2017, the project evolved into a de facto solo venture signed to Stones Throw Records. Known for blending classic soul, psychedelic rock, indie pop, and jazz influences with an analog, bedroom-recording aesthetic, Los Retros gained wider recognition with the viral single "Someone to Spend Time With."
