Sierra Ferrell is a singer/songwriter who uses a variety of styles such as folk, tango, calypso, bluegrass, and more. She was raised in West Virginia and self-released her first two albums in 2018 and 2019. In 2021, she released more music with Rounder Records and gained critical acclaim. Her last albums just came out in 2024. After Ferrell’s parents divorced when she was 5, she lived in a trailer and spent a lot of time outside. She also took an interest in the cassette tapes her mother had. She played clarinet and sang in the school choir, then learned to play guitar and performed Shania Twain covers at local bars. In her teen years, she was the vocalist for a Grateful Dead cover band but then wanted to pursue her own music. As a 20-year-old, Sierra Ferrell went nomadic and lived in her van, playing folk music and offshoot genres. She also dealt with drug addiction, but later got clean and started a successful career.
