The Refinery Charleston in South Carolina was created in 1926 as a headquarters for the oil refinery for Standard Oil Company. The headquarters was a huge part of the social and economic development of the city. It produced items that were used to create the state's infrastructure, such as gas, asphalt, kerosene, and other products. It also kept both North and South Carolina supplied with gas, and it created all of the asphalt used on the downtown Charleston street.
