Bryant-Denny Stadium Events

Situated way out in the middle of Alabama, Bryant-Denny Stadium is remarkable in that the entire population of its home city, Tuscaloosa, is only slightly larger than its official capacity. The stadium is a big draw to football fans from all over the state, however, being home to the University of Alabama’s Crimson Tide football team since 1929. The team’s success in recent years, adding six more national titles since 2009 into its impressive overall tally of 18 (plus 5 “unclaimed titles”), has only served to increase the popularity of the Crimson Tide football program and its monumental stadium. While Bryant-Denny Stadium dates back to 1929, it has been extensively rebuilt and expanded many times since to accommodate the team’s ever-growing fanbase, though for many years some of the most important games were held at Legion Field, which was a larger venue until the late 1990s. Legend has it that the Crimson Tide acquired its name back in 1907, when they were known as the Crimson White. In a game against the powerful Auburn Tigers, they battled to a hard-fought 6-6 tie, their white jerseys dyed red by the iron-rich soil of the Birmingham mud. A local newspaper reporter hailed the heroes as a “Crimson Tide” and the name stuck. These days, the wave of red extends far past the playing surface up into the stands where huge swathes of crimson-clad fans cheer on their team and sing along while the marching band pumps out the classic “Yea, Alabama! Drown 'em Tide! Every 'Bama man's behind you, Hit your stride.” Tailgating is a big tradition here, with friends pooling together snacks and drinks to get pumped up before big games. Anyone showing up to the stadium on an empty stomach will find plenty of typical stadium snacks, such as nachos, burgers, hot dogs, burgers, peanuts, and beer, along with an elephant’s trunk sausage (the mascot of the team is an elephant). Alabama Crimson Tide merchandise can be purchased at kiosks and shops inside Bryant-Denny Stadium or around campus. Be sure to show up wearing red!

Does Bryant-Denny Stadium host concerts and other events?

Along with all Alabama Crimson Tide home games, Bryant-Denny Stadium also sometimes hosts important high school football championship games, but does not generally host concerts or similar events (the last concert was the band Alabama in 1992). No concerts or music festivals are scheduled at Bryant-Denny Stadium for 2024 yet, but keep your eyes on TicketX, as this may change soon!
