About Coliseum at Alliant Energy Center

Coliseum, located in Madison, Wisconsin, is a part of Alliant Energy Center. The center consists of Coliseum, Exhibition Hall, Willow Island, or the New Holland Pavilions. This coliseum is called Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Veterans Memorial Coliseum, initially known as the Dane County Coliseum and constructed in 1967, serves as a multi-functional venue with a capacity of 10,231 seats, which reduces to 7,432 seats for basketball and hockey events. It hosts a diverse array of events including concerts, family shows, sports competitions, consumer expos, conventions, and various assemblies. The facility underwent a comprehensive renovation between 2004 and 2005 to modernize its features. Notably, the Coliseum boasts a rich heritage in hockey, serving as the home ground for the Wisconsin Badgers men's hockey team from the 1967–68 season through the 1997–98 season, before their transition to the Kohl Center. It gained a reputation as one of the most prominent and energetic college hockey arenas in the United States. The Coliseum is credited with the origin of the "sieve chant" directed at opposing goalies after a goal, a taunt now ubiquitous in hockey arenas nationwide. The atmosphere during Badger hockey games earned the venue the moniker "the Montreal Forum of college hockey," and it continues to be affectionately called "the Great Dane" by fans.
