Immortal Technique, born Felipe Andres Coronel on February 19, 1978, in Lima, Peru, is a Peruvian-American rapper, songwriter, and activist. His family relocated to Harlem, New York in 1980 to escape the Peruvian Civil War. Known for his fiercely political and socially conscious lyrics addressing class struggle, institutional racism, imperialism, and government corruption, he emerged as one of underground hip-hop's most respected voices. He released his debut album Revolutionary Vol. 1 independently in 2001, using earnings from rap battle victories, followed by Revolutionary Vol. 2(2003) and The 3rd World (2008), the latter reaching number 99 on the Billboard 200. He remains the only rapper in history to receive The Source's "Hip Hop Quotable" while unsigned.
