They were triumphant again in 1981 and 1988, with victories again sparked by excellence from the mound in the form of Mexican pitcher Fernando “El Toro” Valenzuela. After those glorious years, Dodgers fans had a long wait in store, as the team failed to make it to the World Series again until 2017, when the Dodgers suffered heartbreak in Game Seven at the hands of the Houston Astros, and 2018, when they were dispatched 4-1 by the Boston Red Sox. The team finally got the job done in 2020 when they downed the Tampa Bay Rays 4-2 to win their seventh MLB crown. After a 3-0 NLDS loss to divisional rivals the Arizona Diamondbacks this year, the Dodgers will be revving up for a big season in 2024.
