It may come as a shock to some fans of the Sacramento Kings to hear that their much-derided franchise actually once won the NBA Championship. Yes, it was way back in 1951 when the team was known as the Rochester Royals, but when you’ve got a record as bad as the Kings, you’ll take any scrap of recognition that you can get. The Kings have long struggled to emerge from under the dominance of their fellow Californians the Los Angeles Lakers and, in more recent seasons, Golden State Warriors. Even the hapless Los Angeles Clippers have found something of a groove in recent seasons. The Sacramento Kings did show signs of improvement in 2023-24 but failed to get through the Play-In and into the NBA Playoffs. Can they finally make their mark in 2024-25? Get your Sacramento Kings tickets from TicketX today and be there to cheer on the team!
Nothing gets NBA basketball fans all revved up like watching their team take on one of its biggest rivals. Here are two of the Sacramento Kings’ most significant rivalries.
The Sacramento Kings’ rivalry with the Golden State Warriors stems from the years when neither team was much good at all, though Sacramento fans have looked on with envy at their local California rivals during the Warriors unexpected rise in the 2010s into the greatest modern NBA dynasty. The rivalry between the two teams took a particularly nasty turn in the First Round of the 2023 Playoffs after Draymond Green of the Warriors purposely stomped on the chest of Kings’ star Domantas Sabonis. Sabonis was fine, and Green got suspended, but the Warriors ended up taking the series in Game 7. Minor altercations also broke out between rival fans at some games, as the proximity of Sacramento and San Francisco meant that there were plenty of away fans at games. The Kings got their own back in 2024, eliminating the Warriors from the Play-In Tournament (before themselves being knocked out by the New Orleans Pelicans). The teams usually play four times per season (plus Playoffs, if they meet again!) with 2 games at Chase Center in San Francisco and 2 games at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.
The Sacramento Kings, along with fellow long-time California NBA strugglers the Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors, were scoffed at for years by the almighty Los Angeles Lakers, who didn’t even consider the Kings and the rest as worthy of being considered rivals. This only makes fans of the Kings and the other teams even more keen to topple the Lakers, and so every time the Kings play LeBron and the Lakers these days, Sacramento fans are always in full voice to try to spur their team on to victory. The Kings should play the Lakers 4 times in the 2024-25 regular season, with the games split between Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles and Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.
There are 20 teams—10 from the Eastern Conference and 10 from the Western Conference—who make the NBA Playoffs. The eight No. 7-10 seeds have to face two do-or-die Play-In games to advance to the final eight in each conference. The 76ers and Heat won that honor in the East in 2024, with the Lakers and Hornets earning that reality in the West.
But with the Western Conference so competitive, Victor Wenbayama, the Spurs, and the Kings improving, and teams like the young Oklahoma City Thunder and Minnesota Timberwolves on the upswing, the days of seeing the aging Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Phoenix Suns in the NBA Playoffs may be quickly approaching.
In the East in the 2024-25 NBA season, we can expect the Celtics, 76ers, Knicks, Bucks, Heat, Cavaliers, Magic, and Pacers back in the Postseason, with the Nets, Hawks, and Bulls fighting it out for the final two Play-in spots.
In the West, Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves, Chet Holmgren and the Thunder, Nikola Jokić and the Nuggets, and Luka Dončić and the Mavericks are bound to make the Playoffs again. As many as eight or nine teams, including the aforementioned Lakers, Clippers, Suns, Kings, Pelicans, Spurs, improving Rockets, and Steph Curry and the Warriors, are fighting for those final six spots.
There have been five different NBA champions over the last five seasons—the Toronto Raptors, Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks, Golden State Warriors, and Denver Nuggets—and with the Boston Celtics and Indiana Pacers meeting in the 2024 Eastern Conference Finals and the Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2024 Western Conference Finals, it means a guaranteed six different champions in six years.
Who might we see in the 2025 NBA Finals? The Celtics have the best starting five in the Eastern Conference: Kristaps Porziņģis, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, and Jrue Holiday. The C’s will again be the team to beat in the East, especially if Porziņģis can remain injury-free. In the West, it should be a three-team battle between OKC, Minnesota, and Denver, with the new face of the NBA, Edwards, leading his team to the promised land.
2024-25 NBA Finals Prediction: Celtics over Timberwolves, 4-3
The NBA preseason generally tips off in early October (the schedule of preseason games should be released sometime in mid- to late August, though some teams release their schedule early, individually). Like other NBA teams, the Sacramento Kings should be set to play 3-5 preseason games at various locations in preparation for the upcoming 2024-25 NBA regular season. Fans should be aware that some preseason games do take place in non-NBA American markets (or even overseas in other countries, as with two NBA preseason games this year to be held in Abu Dhabi, UAE). The NBA regular season starts at the end of October and runs until early April, after which the NBA Playoffs begin.
While preseason games do not contribute to points totals in the NBA regular season, don’t completely write them off! Not only are tickets to preseason games quite a bit cheaper, but they also provide a sneak peek at exciting new draft picks and young players who might just make all the difference to the fortunes of the Sacramento Kings in 2024-25 and beyond. Also, with tickets at cheaper prices from TicketX, you might just be able to afford those premium seats you’ve always wanted to try for the best possible close-up views of your favorite Sacramento Kings players!
After a 9th place regular season conference finish and an early postseason exit in the second game of the Play-In in 2023-24, the Sacramento Kings will be looking to reinvigorate their squad with free agents, new talent from the draft, or trades with other franchises. The Kings selected shooting guard Devin Carter in the 2024 NBA Draft this past summer and will be hoping that this highly touted young player can add some better outside shooting to their lineup. Trades or free agency are the team’s other main options, with Brandon Ingram (New Orleans Pelicans), Kyle Kuzma (Washington Wizards), and Lauri Markkanen (Utah Jazz) all rumored to be potential Kings trade targets. Just imagine…King Ingram. Now that would be worth getting tickets (from TicketX) to see!

The Golden 1 Center has been home to the NBA’s Sacramento Kings since 2016, when it was constructed as a combined initiative by the NBA and the city to keep the team in Sacramento, efforts that were thankfully successful. It is quite the venue. Four huge purple laser beams light up the entrance of the venue after every King’s victory. “Light the Beam!” is the fans’ refrain when the team wins (which is unfortunately not quite as often as fans would like). As well as all regular season and playoff Kings home games, the Golden 1 Center also hosts many concerts, conventions, cultural festivals, and other sporting competitions. Visitors who arrive on an empty stomach will have plenty of tempting options, as the venue is well stocked with everything from Greek food to authentic Mexican cuisine to an enticing brewpub.
Golden 1 Center is accessible via SacRT light rail or buses (be sure to check, however, as Sacramento’s transportation system is currently undergoing construction and maintenance). Driving your own vehicle to Golden 1 Center is also fairly straightforward but be sure to budget plenty of time to get through game day traffic. You will find plenty of parking available within a short walk of Golden 1 Center, but we do recommend that you purchase prepaid reserved parking ($10-30) to avoid any hassles or delays.
The Golden 1 Center bag policy only allows small purses and clutches (maximum size: 8” x 6” x 1”) to be carried into the venue. Baby bags, plastic bottles, and baby formula are permitted. Backpacks are not allowed.
Golden 1 Center has a comprehensive set of rules designed to ensure that everyone at the venue has a safe and enjoyable day. Most are common sense, but here are a few good ones to remember:
Disturbances - fans must not engage in inappropriate or offensive behavior such as fighting, using threatening or abusive language, throwing things, standing on chairs, or entering the basketball court. Doing so could lead to ejection and/or arrest.
Re-entry once you’re in, you’re in. In case of emergency, you must speak to a Security Supervisor to be allowed re-entry.
Laptops laptops and personal computers of any kind are not permitted inside the venue, except for journalists or other media personnel with credentials.
Smoking - smoking is completely banned at Golden 1 Center in all forms, including e-cigarettes, vapes, and the like.
Visit the stadium’s FAQ guide for a full list of rules at Golden 1 Center.

Every seat in Golden 1 Center has a great view of the action, from the floor up into the nosebleeds. TicketX lists all tickets available to your game or event at Golden 1 Center along with our seating chart, the best way to compare different seating options.
Fans who have attended games and other events at Golden 1 Center have submitted reviews of various seats within the stadium. Accorting to rateyourseats.com, some fans who chose club seats close to the floor called them “awesome” and rated the experience 5 stars, while others who sat in the 100-section seemed equally enthusiastic. Reviews up in the 200 level were mixed, with some fans complaining about blocked views or reduced sound quality, as well as feeling squeezed in “like sardines.” Please note that reviews are just opinions of individual visitors and therefore highly subjective. Experiences and preferences vary from game to game, and person to person.
