T-Mobile Match Play (previously known as the Bank of Hope LPGA Match Play) is an LPGA golf tournament held in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the Shadow Creek Golf Course par 72 golf course. It is a relatively new tournament, having started up in 2021, bringing the excitement offered by the direct head-to-head competition of match-play golf back to the LPGA for the first time since the demise of the Lorena Ochoa Invitational after 2017. Like PGA tournaments, most LPGA tournaments are contested through stroke play golf, where players aim for the lowest score possible (cumulative over 3-4 rounds). Match play resembles many other sports in that each golfer faces off against a single opponent, with the golfer who wins the most holes in a round winning the match and progressing to the next round. The 2024 tournament was won by Nelly Korda (USA), who defeated Leona Maguire (IRL) to take the title. Best of all, the whole thing is held in Las Vegas, meaning that your days at the golf can be followed by nights of all sorts of entertainment. The T-Mobile Match Play tournament was launched in 2021 in an effort to bring back the intriguing head-to-head battles to the LPGA that only match-play golf can offer. The LPGA tour had been completely without match-play golf since 2017, with the end of the Lorena Ochoa Invitational. The T-Mobile Match Play tournament has been through several iterations in its first four years, adjusting its format to both include match-play golf and maximize the number of high-profile players competing.
The 2024 T-Mobile Match Play tournament format saw some changes to the previous format in order to increase participation while allowing for dramatic and exciting match-play golf. One of the problems with match-play golf is that because of its head-to-head, single-elimination nature (sort of like a “knockout round” in the World Cup), it is quite time-consuming due to the number of rounds required to knock everybody out! The decision was thus made for the 2024 edition of T-Mobile Match Play, to begin with two rounds of stroke play golf on Wednesday and Thursday, followed by a substantial cut (96 players to 65 plus tied scorers). Friday is another stroke play round, from which the top 8 golfers (i.e., the eight golfers with the lowest scores) continue into the match-play rounds of Saturday and Sunday. These match-play rounds consist of quarterfinals and semifinals on Saturday (a lot of golf!), followed by a two-player, winner-takes-all final showdown on Sunday!
Due to the success of the 2024 T-Mobile Match Play tournament format, it seems unlikely that significant changes will be made to the 2025 edition of the tournament. Keep checking TicketX for updates.
T-Mobile Match Play offers golf fans the chance to experience the contrasting styles of professional golf in both main competition formats, all in a single tournament. Wednesday to Friday bring a whirlwind stroke play flurry of close to 100 players doing their best to record the lowest score possible to progress to the match-play round (and avoid the dreaded cut). It can be quite fascinating for golf fans to see how different players deal with the different demands of stroke play and match play, as some feel intimidated or distracted by the fairly unusual experience of playing alongside a direct competitor in match play, while others find it motivating and refreshing.
If you attend the 2025 T-Mobile Match Play tournament, you will find plenty of highly visible leaderboards (generally electronic) notifying fans and players of up-to-the-minute player scores. The T-Mobile Match Play tournament leaderboard can also be accessed online or via the LPGA Now app during the tournament, as well as many other online sports platforms. To view the results of the 2024 T-Mobile Match Play tournament, head to the LPGA’s official website.
A player needs to survive the cut on Thursday and then be one of the top 8 golfers on Friday to progress to the weekend’s match-play rounds. It’s all single elimination from there on in, with a quarterfinal and semifinal on Saturday followed by a two-golfer final on Sunday to determine the T-Mobile Match Play champion. In the end, the winner and runner-up will have played six rounds in four days. That’s a lot of golf!
The exact dates for the 2025 T-Mobile Match Play tournament in Las Vegas have not yet been confirmed, but it seems likely, based on the four previous tournaments, that the 2025 T-Mobile Match Play tournament will likely be held again in early April. The full tournament typically includes seven days (April 1-7 in 2024) with the first two days allocated to practice rounds (which you can also go see, often at a fraction of the price!).
The 2025 T-Mobile Match Play tournament schedule has not yet been announced, but if the same tournament format is followed (as is likely), there will be two practice days (Monday, Tuesday), followed by three stroke play rounds (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday), and three match-play rounds (Saturday, Sunday).
The 2025 T-Mobile Match Play tournament will be held at the par 72 Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas, Nevada. Shadow Creek Golf Course is located in the city of Las Vegas itself, about a 20-minute drive from the famous Las Vegas Strip. The course is about 30 minutes by car from Harry Reid International Airport.
The T-Mobile Match Play will no doubt feature most of the top LPGA golfers due to its high prize money and growing prestige as the tour’s only match-play tournament. This international cast of stars could include such aces as Lydia Ko, Brooke Henderson, Sei Young Kim, Ayaka Furue, and Patty Tavatanakit, as well as defending champion Nelly Korda.
The total prize money for the 2024 T-Mobile Match Play tournament was a cool $2,000,000, with the winner taking home $300,000 and the rest distributed to other competitors according to their placing in the overall standings. 2025 T-Mobile Match Play tournament prize money is yet to be announced, but could possibly increase.
The winner of the 2024 T-Mobile Match Play tournament was American superstar golfer Nelly Korda, who is currently ranked #1 in the world. Korda defeated Ireland’s Leona Maguire in the final with relative ease after she stormed to an early lead.
The best women’s (LPGA) golfer is Nelly Korda (USA) in terms of the rankings, with Lydia Ko (NZE), Brooke Henderson (USA), Sei Young Kim (KOR), and Ayaka Furue (JPN) rounding out a very international field. Buy pro golf tickets from TicketX now to see your favorite players in action in 2025!
Note: Not all golfers appear in every tournament; golfers select which tournaments to appear in. Certain entrance requirements are also sometimes mandated, depending on the tournament.
Watching live golf is quite different from going to other live sports in that it is a sport that takes days rather than hours and involves individuals taking their time rather than teams racing around at breakneck pace before the clock runs out. Many golf fans love the relaxed atmosphere around the sport, with many venues allowing fans to move freely around the edges of the course (within designated fan areas) to follow their favorite players through different stages of the course. Make no mistake though, there is no tension in the world like a golfer trying to sink a putt to win a four-day major tournament on the 18th hole in front of hundreds or even thousands of fans.
