Atmosphere is a hip-hop duo from Minneapolis, Minnesota that formed in 1996. They have thirteen studio albums and ten EPs. The duo, which consists of DJ and producer Anthony Davis, known as Ant, and rapper Sean Daley, known as Slug, have produced all of their albums. The duo met in high school and took on the names D-Spawn and Slug as their rapper names. They first performed under the name “Mental Subjects” before changing to “A Rhythmic Culture.” Then they settled on “Urban Atmosphere” which got shortened to just Atmosphere. They joined with other rappers to form a collective, which they called Headshots. The collective released a series of tapes, which garnered them local acclaim and they started making national appearances. Their first full-length album came out in 1998 but was only put onto cassette. It was re-issued in 2005 on CD and is still one of their most critically acclaimed pieces.
