Chevron Championship

The Chevron Championship is an LPGA golf tournament held in The Woodlands, Texas, at the Club at Carlton Woods par 72 golf course. Together with the Women's PGA Championship, U.S. Women's Open, The Evian Championship, and The Women's Open, the Chevron Championship is one of the LPGA’s five majors, considered the highest honors that a female professional golfer can win. The Chevron Championship is also the first major of the year in each LPGA season, thus allowing the winner to set down a challenge to the rest of the field by winning it. From 1972 until 2022, the Chevron Championship was held at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California, but in 2023, the tournament was relocated to its current location in The Woodlands, Texas: The Club at Carlton Woods, a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course. The 2024 Chevron Championship was won by Nelly Korda (USA), who shot a stirring -13 to beat Maja Stark (SWE) by two strokes. Can Korda win again next year? Get your 2025 Chevron Championship tickets from TicketX as soon as they are released, and be there on the fairway side to find out!

How Can I Find Cheap Chevron Championship Tickets?

The Chevron Championship tournament generally takes place in mid-April across four days (Thursday-Sunday) of 4 stroke play rounds. There is a cut of roughly half the field after the first two days. Tickets to the Chevron Championship tournament tend to sell out very quickly due to its gorgeous course (The Woodlands, Texas: The Club at Carlton Woods, a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course), great weather, relaxing rural location, and the fact that it is one of just three LPGA majors that take place on American soil. Big prize money also attracts top LPGA golfers, though the prestige of winning a major probably outstrips the money for most. The Chevron Championship

The Chevron Championship was founded in 1972 by actress Dinah Shore (the tournament was referred to as “The Dinah Shore” for many years), offering the largest amount of prize money ever seen in women’s golf at the time. It was officially confirmed as an LPGA major in 1983 and has remained so ever since. For many years, the Chevron Championship was well known for holding a women’s festival nearby during the tournament as well as for the tradition of the champion jumping into Poppie’s Pond after victory (hence all the photographs of past champions in white bathrobes with the trophy). Players seemed somewhat hesitant to commit to continuing this tradition at the new course in Texas (perhaps connected to the need to install an anti-alligator net!), though the first two champions in Texas, Lilia Vu and Nelly Korda, did ultimately decide to take the plunge.

Chevron Championship Format

The 2024 Chevron Championship tournament format follows a conventional four-day, 4 round, 72-hole stroke play competition, with the player with the lowest number of total strokes over the four rounds being declared champion (any tie for first place results in a head-to-head playoff). Following 2-3 days of practice rounds (which you can also attend…they’re usually cheaper!), the first two rounds take place on Thursday and Friday, followed by a cut of roughly half the field. The rest of the players continue through the third and fourth rounds on Saturday and Sunday until the scorecards are complete, and the winner jumps into the pond!

Chevron Championship Golf

Chevron Championship offers golf fans the chance to experience one of just three LPGA majors held in the United States. All golf tournaments have high stakes, but majors feel different, with legacy and history on the line more so than money or pride. Winning a major in golf is, in some ways, akin to winning a major trophy in one of America’s other sports (like the Super Bowl). Players see their fortunes wax and wane over four trying days, with only the hardiest competitors hanging in there to make that crucial putt or hit that last fairway when the pressure’s on. You gotta be there! Buy your Chevron Championship tickets from TicketX!

Chevron Championship Leaderboard

If you go to the 2025 Chevron Championship tournament, highly visible leaderboards (generally electronic) should not be hard to find, as they are generally located all around the course to provide fans and players with up-to-the-minute player scores. The Chevron Championship tournament leaderboard can also be accessed online or via the LPGA Now app during the tournament, as well as many other online sports platforms. To check the full leaderboard results for the 2024 Chevron Championship tournament, head to the LPGA’s official website.

How Does a Player Win the Chevron Championship Tournament?

To win, a player needs to survive the cut after Thursday and Friday and go on through Saturday and Sunday’s rounds to record the lowest total number of strokes across all four rounds.

Is Watching Live Golf Exciting? Is Watching Live Golf Fun?

Watching live golf is quite different from going to other live sports in that it is a sport that takes days rather than hours and involves individuals taking their time rather than teams racing around at breakneck pace before the clock runs out. Many golf fans love the relaxed atmosphere around the sport, with many venues allowing fans to move freely around the edges of the course (within designated fan areas) to follow their favorite players through different stages of the course. Make no mistake though, there is no tension in the world like a golfer trying to sink a putt to win a four-day major tournament on the 18th hole in front of hundreds or even thousands of fans.
