Ichiko Aoba is a Japanese folk singer and songwriter who plays the guitar as her main instrument. She composes her own music and also plays clarinet, flute, piano, and accordion. She is known for her acoustic sound and her dream-inspired songwriting. Aoba was born in Urayasu, Chiba, but was raised in Kyoto, Prefecture, Japan. She learned classical guitar at 17 and was often inspired by Disney music. Anmi Yamada, a Japanese singer/songwriter, was her mentor and taught her instrument crafts. Aoba, in turn, covered two of Yamada’s songs on two of her albums. She released her first album at 19 in 2010 and has released several live and studio albums since. She has also worked on theatre productions and is featured on Nintendo Switch soundtracks. She continues to release music on her own label, called Hermine.
