Rob Base (born Robert Ginyard on May 18, 1967) is an American rapper from Harlem, New York City, best known as one half of the hip hop duo Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock alongside childhood friend Rodney "Skip" Bryce. After signing with Profile Records, the duo released their debut album It Takes Two in 1988, which spawned the platinum-certified title track that became one of hip hop's most enduring classics, crossing over into dance clubs and mainstream radio and helping to pioneer hip hop's commercial appeal. Their second album The Incredible Base followed in 1989 and achieved gold certification. The duo reunited in 1994 before DJ E-Z Rock's death in 2014. Rob Base continues to perform as a solo act, keeping their legacy alive on nostalgia tours.
