Slayer

Slayer, an American iconic heavy metal band, was formed in 1981 in Huntington Park, California. Known for their fast and aggressive musical style, they are a cornerstone of the thrash metal subgenre. Slayer's influence extends beyond metal, shaping the sound and attitude of modern heavy music. Slayer debuted with "Show No Mercy" in 1983, revolutionizing heavy metal with their speed and ferocity. They achieved fame with albums like "Reign in Blood" and "South of Heaven" which is known for intense singles like "Raining Blood," Slayer has won two Grammy Awards, cementing their legacy in metal history. Slayer's popularity stems from their relentless speed, complex guitar work, and controversial lyrics. Their music, often exploring dark and taboo themes, resonates with fans seeking intensity and authenticity. Attending a Slayer concert or tour was an electrifying experience. After more than three decades of recording and performing, they announced a farewell tour and after the tour the band disbanded. If we can see their concert again, it would be the time when they decide the reunion of the band.

Awards

Slayer, one of the most influential and pioneering bands in the thrash metal genre, has received numerous accolades throughout their career. Their accolades are as follows.

  • Grammy Awards

  • Kerrang! Awards

  • Metal Edge Readers' Choice Awards

  • Metal Hammer Awards (Germany)

  • Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards (UK)

  • Metal Storm Awards

and many more!

How did Slayer rise to fame?

In 1983, Slayer performed at the Woodstock Club in Anaheim, opening for Bitch. Their set included six cover songs out of eight. Brian Slagel, founder of Metal Blade Records, noticed them and was impressed. He asked Slayer to contribute an original track, "Aggressive Perfector," to his Metal Massacre III compilation. The song's release generated underground buzz, leading Slagel to offer Slayer a recording contract with Metal Blade.

Past Slayer Collaborations

Slayer has collaborated with a variety of artists and bands throughout their career, but they are known more for their influence than for their direct collaborations. They have shared the stage and tours with some of the biggest names in metal and have been featured on several compilation albums. In particular, they have performed with Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax, often called Big 4. Groups who cited Slayer among their major influences include Cannibal Corpse, Pantera, Kreator, Sepultura, Children of Bodom, Mayhem and many more.

Slayer Tours and Concerts 2024
