Amalie Arena Events

Hockey purists from the icy north may have sniffed when the Tampa Bay Lightning first set up shop in 1992 in the warm steamy climes of west-central Florida, but the city’s love of all things sporting soon led it to embrace their new NHL team. Gorgeous Amalie Arena, which is fronted by the waters of the Tampa Bay estuary and, of course, rows of palm trees, regularly sells out Lightning games and other big events. Since the venue was first built in 1996 (it was originally known as the Ice Palace), the Lightning have given their well-tanned fans plenty to cheer about, hoisting the Stanley Cup three times: in 2004, 2020, and 2021. As well as all regular season and playoff Lightning home games, Amalie Arena also plays host to many concerts, college basketball games, and UFC/MMA events. Country music star Carrie Underwood, for one, has sold out the Amalie Arena on numerous occasions. Visitors who show up to the venue hungry will find no shortage of delicious snacks, including chicken tenders, steak, and Papa Johns Pizza. Team and event merchandise, much of it emblazoned with the Lightning’s dramatic lightning bolt logo, can be found on sale at the many kiosks and shops around the arena.
