Detroit Street Circuit

First constructed in 1982, the Detroit Street Circuit is a temporary street circuit that runs through the heart of Detroit, Michigan, the Motor City itself. The Detroit Street Circuit was initially conceived as a home to the Detroit Grand Prix of Formula 1 racing as well as several other popular auto racing events. Decried by top drivers for its poor road surface conditions and difficult sequence of turns, the Detroit Street Circuit lost its Formula 1 event in 1989, after which brief stints by other organizations began but soon petered out. By 2001, it looked as if the Detroit Street Circuit might be gone for good. Eventually, IndyCar stepped in, setting up the IndyCar Detroit Grand Prix that continues to this day. In 2023, the race was finally returned to a modified version of the original downtown circuit. The current race consists of 100 laps of the 1.645 mi (2.647 km) circuit for a total of 164.5 miles (264.737 km). Does the Detroit Street Circuit also host concerts and other events?

As a temporary street circuit, the Detroit Street Circuit does not host other events during the year, as it is constructed immediately prior to the Detroit Grand Prix and is then dismantled after the race. However, the 2023 Detroit Grand Prix was accompanied by a big race day concert featuring Steve Aoki and Big Boi. Performers for the 2024 Detroit Grand Prix concert should be announced any day now.
