ESTADIO DA LUZ

Capacity: 64,642 Opened: 2003

Owned by the Portuguese football team, Benfica is Estadio Da Luz. Estadio Da Luz directly translates from Portuguese to the Stadium of Light. However, the stadium is aptly named after the neighbourhood it was built in, Luz.  Estadio Da Luz is situated in Lisbon, Portugal.

The stadium is primarily a venue for football games. However, installing the first fully cardioid D&B audiotechnik sound system in the world equips the stadium with a stellar audio experience. Hence, it has hosted several music concerts. It is the biggest stadium in Portugal and the 23rd largest in Europe. The stadium is currently home to its owners, Benfica, hosting all the team’s games. The stadium was built as a replacement for the old Estadio Da Luz, the largest stadium in the world, with a maximum capacity of 120,000 people.

Due to the financial challenges the club, Benfica, faced, the stadium was demolished. The new building, the current Estadio Da Luz, was constructed in time for Portugal to host some games of the 2004 UEFA Euro Championship, including the Final.
