Since its opening in 1978, the resort has undergone significant transformations, including renovations and expansions to modernize the facility and enhance guest experiences. It boasts 1,990 guest rooms, 12 restaurants, a casino spanning 80,000 sq ft, a movie theater, a nightclub, a golf driving range, and a recently added ice rink, among other features. Historically, the resort has seen changes in ownership and branding, transitioning from MGM Grand Reno to Bally's Reno, then to Reno Hilton, and finally to Grand Sierra Resort in 2006. In 2023, the Grand Sierra Resort announced a $1 billion-plus expansion project, its most ambitious yet, which will include a new hotel tower, residential units, and a 10,000-seat arena set to open in 2026. This arena is expected to become the new home for the University of Nevada men's basketball team. These developments underscore the Grand Sierra Resort's ongoing evolution from a hotel-casino to a comprehensive entertainment and living complex, cementing its status as a key destination in Reno.
