Warren G, born Warren Griffin III on November 10, 1970, in Long Beach, California, is an American rapper, record producer, and DJ widely credited as a pioneer of G-funk, the smooth, funk-influenced subgenre of West Coast hip-hop. The stepbrother of Dr. Dre, he formed the trio 213 with childhood friends Nate Dogg and Snoop Dogg in 1990, and is credited with introducing Snoop Dogg to Dr. Dre. Signed to Def Jam Recordings, his debut album Regulate... G Funk Era(1994) debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 and was certified triple platinum by the RIAA. The lead single Regulate, featuring Nate Dogg, peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and received two Grammy nominations, becoming one of the defining tracks of 1990s hip-hop.
