About Alok

Alok (born Alok Achkar Peres Petrillo on August 26, 1991) is a Brazilian DJ and record producer from Goiânia, Brazil, widely regarded as the most prominent electronic music artist to emerge from Latin America. Born into a musical family, with his parents Swarup and Ekanta being pioneering psytrance DJs and founders of the Universo Paralello festival, he began his career at age 12 alongside his fraternal twin brother Bhaskar. Known for his genre he calls "Brazilian Bass," a fusion of tech-house, EDM, and Brazilian rhythms, he broke through internationally with his 2016 single "Hear Me Now," the first Brazilian track to surpass 100 million streams on Spotify. He has been ranked among the top DJs in the world by DJ Mag, achieving his highest placement of third in 2025. In 2019, he founded his record label Controversia Records in partnership with Spinnin' Records. He is also known for his philanthropic work through the Alok Institute, founded in 2020.
