About Kreator

Kreator are a German thrash metal band from Essen, formed in 1982, consisting of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Miland "Mille" Petrozza, drummer Jürgen "Ventor" Reil, lead guitarist Sami Yli-Sirniö, and bassist Frédéric Leclercq. The band began as a trio under the names Tyrant and then Tormentor before Noise Records signed them in 1985 and asked them to change their name. Their sound fuses thrash metal with Venom's proto-black metal imagery, Motörhead's terminal velocity, and the nihilistic outlook of Black Sabbath. Their second album Pleasure to Kill (1986) is widely regarded as one of the genre's defining records and a major influence on the development of death metal. Subsequent classics — Terrible Certainty (1987), Extreme Aggression (1989), and Coma of Souls (1990) — cemented their legacy. One of the first European thrash bands to sign with a major label (Epic Records, 1988), they achieved mainstream success with Phantom Antichrist (2012) and Gods of Violence (2017), the latter reaching number one in Germany. Along with Destruction, Sodom, and Tankard, they are one of the "Big Four" of Teutonic thrash metal. Their sixteenth album, Krushers of the World, was released January 16, 2026. Kreator has sold over two million records worldwide.
