New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival

The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, known more commonly as Jazz Fest, is a celebration of New Orleans and Louisiana’s cultural mainstay. Since it started in the 1970s, the festival has been a beloved backcountry tradition that eulogizes the city’s jazz legacy and diversity of music genres: Cajun, zydeco, blues, R&B, rock, funk, African, Latin, Caribbean, and folk music.

In the span of a couple of decades, the event has been subject to accolades, particularly by being named Festival of the Year four times by the Pollstar magazine. What’s more, renowned publications have lent their words to the cause for its expansive lineup that spotlights a spectrum of essential American styles of music.

A Stage for Iconic Artists and Performers

Throughout the course of its history, Jazz Fest has featured legendary artists, who, in turn, have left an indelible mark on the event and the music industry at large.

Whether it is Professor Longhair and Fats Domino, The Neville Brothers, Wynton Marsalis, or the incredible Dr. John, the occasion has given stage to New Orleans and Louisiana music greats. Artists like Trombone Shorty  & Orleans Avenue, Harry Connick Jr., The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and Aaron Neville have used this opportunity to enchant their audiences with their Louisianian approach to entertainment.

At its core, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival is more or less an embodiment of the unparalleled confluence of Native American, African, Caribbean, European, Hispanic, and Asian influences that have contributed to forming New Orleans’ cultural landscape. The fusion of these elements is celebrated via not only music but also food, art, dance, and festive merry.

Now half a century old, Jazz Fest continues as a testament to its enduring sheerness of popular American music. Atop its eclectic lineup, energetic stage performances and diversity of offerings, it remains a cherished tradition bringing together millions of folks around the world to rave in the magic of New Orleans’ musical and cultural heritage.
